"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
(Mary Oliver)
(Continued from Part 1)
You might be wondering and saying to yourself, "But what if I don't have dreams and goals?"
My response is, "It's time to get some." No matter your age, history, or circumstances.
Several years ago I asked my husband, "Do you have any dreams and goals now?" He responded, "No." I said, "Neither do I. But I'm going to get some." And I set out to discover my yearnings, longings, and discontents.
I remembered that I had been interested in being a life coach. That still interested to me, so I began researching the various types of life coaches. And I found myself getting excited about becoming a Life Coach. I also let myself daydream of places I'd like to go, people I'd like to see, and things I would like to do. Before long, I had a list.
What if, you decided to "get" some dreams?
What if, you paid attention to your yearnings, longings, and discontents?
What if, you let yourself daydream of people, places, and things you would like to see, visit, or do?
Be aware of the, "Oh, that sounds nice, but I don't have the money, or the health, or the time to do any of those things, so I might as well not daydream and disappoint myself." (I've been there--Done that.)
Say "No" to the naysayers, including your thoughts.
Remember: this is "your one wild and precious life."
My mom had always wanted to take a riverboat cruise on the Delta Queen on the Mississippi River, and enjoy a mint julip while sitting on the deck. She never made that trip. About a year ago, one of my cousins made that trip, and took a photo of my mom with her. I'm glad my cousin took that riverboat cruise. I'm so happy she took a photo of my mom. And I'm sad my mom never got to take that trip.
We all make choices. Our priorities shift and change.
But I've noticed women tend to put other's needs before their own.
I remember flying from California to the UK when my son had just turned five. The flight attendant gave all the instructions at the very beginning of the flight. One instruction was something along the lines of, "If you are caring for a child or someone else during the flight, and if the cabin should lose air pressure, remember to put your own oxygen mask on first."
Now when you stop and think about that, it makes perfect sense. But it did not make sense to all of my maternal instincts.
So, what about you? Are you putting your own oxygen mask on first?
What if, you decided to allow yourself to dream?
What if, you decided to now start taking care of yourself?
What if, you decided you were worth the investment of time and money in yourself?
It's amazing how when you get focused on a dream, vision, or goal, you begin to notice things lining up in your favor. God and the Universe are always with you every step of the way. You just have to start the journey.
What if, you decided to believe?
Believe in yourself?
Believe in your visions, dreams, and goals?
You are worth it!
Is there a riverboat cruise, or perhaps another adventure, you've wanted to take?
Say, "Yes!" to your "one wild and precious life."
To live a life you love, and to have a life of health and well-being, takes a commitment to yourself to do the work, and to believe. I believe in you. I believe.
To Your Courageous Self!
