"You May Contribute a Verse"

....."That you are here--That life exists and identity,

That the powerful play goes on,

and you may contribute a verse.

That the powerful play goes on,

and you may contribute a verse.

What will your verse be?"

Poem "O Me! O Life!" by Walt Whitman

quoted by Robin Williams in the movie, Dead Poets Society

I was on Instagram when I stumbled across Robin Williams quoting this poem to his students in Dead Poets Society. Oh my gosh, it was so very powerful for me!

Robin Williams' recitation brought tears to my eyes, and touched my heart and my soul. (If you haven't heard him, I strongly, very strongly, encourage you to do so.)

The "powerful play" goes on for each of us.

(Ah... the "powerful play" is my life. Yes, it does go on. And now that I am older, it's "going on" rather quickly. ---

What about for you and your "powerful play?" How's it going?)

And we each "may contribute a verse".

(I wonder, What "verse" am I contributing?

I think my "verse" is that of being a caregiver, guide, service provider to others, a heartfelt spokesperson, and a lover of nature and ALL of God's creation, especially children.---

What about you and your "verse?" What "verse" are you contributing?)

"What will your verse be?"

*************************************************************

In the movie, Dead Poets Society, the teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams), encourages his students to look at the meaning and purpose of life from different perspectives, to express themselves fully, to discover and honor their own gifts and talents, and to live their lives to the fullest.

(Hmmm--I know I need to work on what John Keating is encouraging.

How about you? Do you need to work on any of his teachings?)
