Who Are You?

When I was in graduate school getting my masters degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, one of my professors in Psychosynthesis did this exercise with us. It was very enlightening.

We worked in pairs. My partner would ask, "Who are you?" I would answer in one to three words and she would write down my response. After each of my answers, she would again ask, "Who are you?" My partner would vary her voice and tone each time she asked, "Who are you?"

My answers were:

student--female--seeker--daughter--lover of nature--spiritual--sister--aunt--and my answers continued.

How do you answer, "Who are you?" (write down your answers using one to three words)

I've done this exercise many times since graduate school. My answers have evolved. Nowadays my answers include:

lifelong learner--Transformational Life Coach--woman--mother--grandmother--wife--author--spiritual being--victim--survivor--thriver--positive individual--friend--reader--philanthropist--speaker--love the outdoors--love dogs--peaceful--love horses--ever growing--childhood trauma survivor--creating my life--living my dreams--magical thinker--love mountain air--, and my aswers continue.

You can do this exercise on your own by asking, "Who am I?" Just vary your voice (soft, quiet, firm, louder) and the rhythm of your question each time you ask. And remember to keep your answers to one to three words.

Try doing this exercise one time each month and watch your answers evolve. You will be growing and changing as you look within and let your inner light shine. "Who are you?"

I'd love to hear some of your responses to, "Who are you?"
