One day, as I left my office to pick-up my 7-year old son from after-school daycare, I noticed a father and son walking across the parking lot. My son had soccer practice in about 30 minutes.
The father was walking a bit ahead of his son. His son, who was about the same age as my son, was taking a little longer. He was walking with the aid of a walker.
I realized he would never be able to run or play soccer like my son. I paused to think of all that I took for granted. This little boy was my teacher. In my heart, I thanked this little boy for being one my great teachers, and I blessed him.
When I picked up my son, I told him about the little boy being one of my teachers. We went off to soccer practice and I got to watch my son run and play. And I thought of the other little boy.
Another teacher discussed by my son and me, was one of my adult nephews, Darin, who was about 20+ years older than my son. Darin had a hard life from the time he was a very young child. As he got older he self-medicated with drugs, and was in jail multiple times on drug charges. But for us, he was kind and helpful with yardwork, painting, moving furniture, cleaning rain gutters, and building a fence. His hands touhed every corner of our home. We loved him and appreciated his kindness. What my son learned was that you can be a drug user and still be a good person, and drugs can also mess up your life and kill you. Thank you, Darin. We love you and miss you.
Another teacher discussed by my son and me was a distant family member. This family member would say inappropriate and hurtful comments seemingly never aware of the impact. I got very frustrated, and said I wasn't sure if I ever needed to have contact with that person again. My son, who was an older teenager at that time, said, "Perhaps this person is your teacher." At first I was puzzled. I never had this person as one of my teachers. He said again, "Perhaps this person is your teacher." Oh......... Hmmmm. What could this person teach me? Oh, perhaps patience and acceptance. Thank you for being one of my teachers.
Our pets have also been my teachers. They teach awareness, patience, kindness, love, laughter, play, care of others, holding on and letting go. A very special thank you to our furry family.
Teachers are all around us. They come in all different kinds of shapes and forms. And some of our teachers may be so-called inanimate objects that can still elicit a multitude of thoughts and emotions.
Who or what have been and are your teachers?

PS As a result of working with me, women will recognize their courage, gain clarity on their dreams and goals, heal the pain of past trauma, and be empowered to create a life they love living. I'm looking for women who are ready to stretch outside their comfort zone, break through their own limiting beliefs, and Move Beyond Survival to experience a life of health and well-being. --Who do you know? I would love to work with them.
