Is Your Imagination Working for You or Against You?

Do you remember learning how to ride a bike? Pretty scary, because you were probably wondering, "What if I fall or crash?" or, "What if some people laugh at me?" But you faced your fear. You probably fell and crashed. (I know I did.) You just needed to work at it. (I was determined to learn how to ride a bike.) You imagined yourself riding a bike like the other kids were doing. You were determined to learn. And before long, you werre successful! And what did you say? "I did it!"
Have you ever had to give a talk or presentation to a group of people? Just the thought of public speaking can cause anxiety for most of us. But what helps to reduce that anxiety? You practice your talk. You imagine giving your presentation to a room full of people. You are calm. You speak clearly and with confidence. Your talk is well-received. And when you actually make your speech or do your presentation, you are relieved when it's over. And then, what do you say to yourself? "I did it!"
The purpose of our imagination is not to scare us, but rather, to imagine the best thing that can happen. We have an imagination, so we can solve problems, help make the world a better place, dream big dreams, be whoever we want to be, and create the life we want to live.
Here's a tool you can use to help your imagination work for you.
Ask yourself:
What do I want?
How do I want to feel physically and emotionally?
What is the best thing that can happen
I ask you: Why not imagine the good stuff? I think it takes less energy to imagine the best that can happen than it does to imagine the worst that can happen. When we imagine the worst that can happen, it takes us on a wild goose chase and depletes our energy. When we imagine the best that can happen, we feel positive and energized. Why not imagine the good stuff?
