How Old Are You, Anyways?

I've been asked that very question numerous times by children, and sometimes by adults.

And sometimes it can be a hard question to answer. I mean, how old are you?

Is it my age in numbers? I'm not sure I feel like my numbers age.

Maybe I can compare my age to the Giant Sequoias, which can live to over 3,000 years. In that case, I am just a tiny baby.

But I guess, it might work better, for comparison sake, if I focus on people and our ages.

I started thinking about age, because my husband and I were recently referred to as "an elderly couple." Hmmmm Elderly couple? I guess that's probably true, but I don't feel elderly, and I don't think of myself as elderly.

Somehow in my mind, the word "elderly" refers to my great grandmothers who lived into their 80's and 90's, and needed some kind of assistance. One died when I was nine years old, and the other great grnadma died when I was 16.

Of course, my perspective on their ages and lives was a bit different than my current perspective on my own age and time.

I'm well aware that I have more years behind me than I do in front of me.

How old am I, really? A mere baby to some, a child to others, an elder to some, and an old or elderly person to others. (I'm sure my grandchildren have their own perspective.)

But since I'm still here, I choose to live and to serve to the best of my ability.

God Bless all of those who have travelled this road before us.

God Bless all of those who were too young when they left this life's journey.

God Bless everyone who has crossed my path. Each one of you has been one of my teachers. Thank you.

And may God Bless Us, Everyone--no matter our age.
