For the Sake of Children

Children are our future. We've probably all heard that saying.
And yet, children are dying by the thousands in our world today because of war, starvation, lack of adequate medical care, abuse, pre-term birth, firearm injuries, mental health and violence (suicide and homicide), drug overdose, and vehicle accidents.
These children are experiencing horrendous trauma.
My heart aches for the children and their families.
We've gotten used to and numb to the suffering in our world. If it's not happening in my family, or my neighborhood, or my city, or my state, or my country, it can become just part of the news.
We need to wake up! We need to speak up! We need to do whatever each one of us can do to help children.
Our most precious human beings, our children, are being ignored or forgotten or treated as if they don't matter. It's like Charles Dickens character, Scrooge saying, "Well, then, decrease the surplus population."
These children are the ones who will find cures for diseases. We need them. And they need us to value them, and to protect them.
During this month of April, which is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, I am trying to focus on all children.
Children are a gift from God--a Divine blessing.
God Bless us, everyone.
To Your Courageous Self!
