Are You Living Your Life by Default or Design?

Well, that's a good question. Let me think about that.

Am I living my life by default or design?


I try to be intentional. I try to have daily plans and goals. I also try to take some action each day in the direction of my dreams. Hmmmm But truth be told, there are days when I really get distracted. I mean instead of sitting down, or even standing up, to write or to tape videos, I would rather do anything else. So, I clean the toilets. It's like they're calling me, and of course, I must respond. That sounds like default, to me.


They aren't calling me right now, because earlier today I already was called and distracted by the toilets, bathroom sinks, and the kitchen sinks. All of which are now very clean.


Does any of this sound familiar to you? Do you get distracted?

And then before you know it, another day has gone by and you haven't taken steps in the direction of your dream, if you even have a dream. And you realize you are on some sort of auto-pilot, and nothing changes. And you think, "Oh, my gosh! I'm just waking up each morning and going through the motions. It's not that I like the motions, but they do come naturally to me." Ahhh, that, too, sounds like default.


Well, here we are at the very beginning of December, and we're thinking about holiday plans and already starting to think about next year. "Next year I will be more organized. I will have some goals. I will stop letting the past hold me back. I will figure out what my dreams are. I will focus on my health and relationships." And we telll ourselves, "That's a pretty good start. I can do those things."


But will you actually do those things? The real answer is, you might do those things for a few weeks or even a month, and then you stop. Why? Because you, all of us, need a system and we need support.


We aren't meant to be lone rangers, doing everything on our own. We are meant to be a part of a community, a supportive community. And when we are a part of that community, we learn and realize there are infinite possibilities that await.
